De cyclus vanaf het ontstaan van de klei tot het gebakken object is een gesloten cirkel. Klei ontstaat uit rotsen door erosie ontbonden. De harde rots wordt een kneedbare massa. De mens grijpt in, vormt de klei naar zijn idee. Met vuur verhardt hij de klei opnieuw tot een rotsachtige materie.
